Firearm Safety & Education
COSC regularly sponsors Educational Gun Safety Classes as well as NRA specialized Training. Organized monthly events such as the .22 Fun Match, the Defenders Match, Cowboy Action Shooting, and Trap and Skeet competitions serve to foster a better understanding between sportsmen and the general public.
COSC members regularly volunteer to train individuals new to firearms and shooting sports. Training most often takes place when the club hosts other non-profit groups such as the Boy Scouts of America. Experienced COSC members man the firing line offering instruction and teaching firearm safety.
The club annually invites family, friends, and the general public to the Lopez Canyon facility for their Summerfest celebration. In addition to providing attendees with the opportunity to experience a wide variety of shooting activities suitable for the entire family, Summerfest offers up good food and drink throughout the day, and finishes with an outdoor, sunset dinner for anyone who’s hungry.

Membership
Club membership is achieved through a personal referral process. Potential members of good character must be sponsored by two current COSC members in good standing and are thoroughly vetted prior to being accepted into membership.
Potential members are encouraged to participate in as many club events as possible during the membership processing period. They are also required to attend a minimum of three COSC General Membership Meetings. These meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM.

Facility Maintenance
COSC facilities are maintained almost entirely by club members. Every member is required to do their share in keeping buildings, shooting ranges, and undeveloped property in good order.
COSCI shares the Lopez Canyon property with four other shooting clubs: the Crescenta Valley Sportsman’s Club, Panorama Sportsman’s Club, Gopher Flats Sportsmen’s Club, and the San Fernando Valley Sportsmen’s Club.
Several times throughout each year work party days are scheduled that include all five clubs. Areas requiring mechanical repair, building maintenance, or gardening work are identified in advance. Each club is given a specific work assignment for the day and members from each club pitch in to complete the assigned work.
Each club is independently managed by its own members. The range is managed by the Combined Range Committee which is composed of representatives from each of the five clubs.
Members and their guests are responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment throughout daily range operations. Safe shooting practices, respect for fellow shooters, area clean-up, and general preservation of all club facilities are the responsibility of every member and their guests.
Members or guests observed to be careless, destructive, negligent, or who leave trash behind will be determined to be in violation of Range Rules.
